Lacrosse Goes CIF In SVUSD

For the past six months, the Saddleback Valley Lacrosse Boosters have been planning, preparing, presenting, and negotiating. On Tuesday, September 5th, the SVUSD Board of Education approved our request -- lacrosse can go CIF this year! This is truly a historic event. It's the first sport to go CIF in our district in years. The members of the 2007 MVHS lacrosse team will hold the unique distinction of being founding members.
Roger Brent Named "Man of the Year"

Our own Roger Brent has been named the Orange Country Lacrosse Man of the Year. Roger has done so much for lacrosse throughout Orange County and especially for the Mission Viejo Lacrosse Club. Let's all congratulate him on this great honor.
End of Season Awards

The Mission Viejo Boys Lacrosse Club end of season banquet was held on Tuesday, May 30. It was a great end to a great season. The coaches also took the opportunity to recognize some of the outstanding contributions on both our varsity and JV teams.

MV Players Named to All OCLA League Team

Both Keith Calcagnie and Russell Brent were elected to the All OCLA League Team. This is selected based on the first team all-star teams. All of the coaches in the league vote using the first team rosters for both the North and the South. Each coach votes for the top three players in each position and the votes were tallied and then you come up with the team. Mission Viejo Players Named to All Star Team

Six of our varsity Mission Viejo players have been named to the OC Lacrosse League All Star team. Two attackmen were named -- Russell Brent and Matt Brodhagen. Keith Calganie was selected as one of the team's midfielders. And, defensemen Jeff Craun and Eric Freedman were also chosen for the team. Hudson Parker received an honorable mention and will also be playing on the team. The All Star game is scheduled for Friday, June 2 at 5:30 at Capo High School. It is sure to be a fantastic game of lacrosse. Let's all be there to support our players.
Boys vs. Girls Game

What's that?! Yes, the girls are going to teach the boys that girls lacrosse is a completely different game. Come out and support your players (boys and girls) this Thursday, May 18 at 4:30pm at La Paz. The boys should all wear their red uniforms. There is a practice scrimmage on Wednesday at 4:00pm.

Girls Finish Season With Another Win

The girls lacrosse team finished an amazing season on Saturday with a huge win over the La Quinta Lady Hawks (10 to 2) -- their fourth win in a row! Congratulations on a fantastic year!
Record Season for Boys Varsity

The varsity boys team wrapped up an outstanding season of lacrosse with their semifinal competition against El Toro. Starting with the La Quinta Desert LAXFest championship, the team showed they had strength. They demonstrated that they had staying power with their record in league games. They topped the year off with a third place finish at the OCLA tournament and a third place finish in the league. Congratulations on a record year.
JV Completes a Great Season

The JV team had their second matchup against Woodbridge tonight in the league semifinals. While the score came up a bit short, our players competed like the champions they are. It was one of the best games they've played all season and a great demonstration of just how far they have come as a team.
Varsity Defeats La Quinta in Quarterfinals

The varsity boys team defeated La Quinta for the third time this year to win their OCLA league quarterfinal challenge. At the end of a very competitive game, Keith Calcagnie scored the winning goal in overtime play. The team plays El Toro next in the semifinals on Thursday.
On To The Playoffs!

With back to back victories against Capo Valley, both the varsity and junior varsity teams move onto the league playoffs. The varsity team played one of their best games this season and finished the game with a 16 to 6 victory. The junior varsity team brought it on strong in the second half with a final score of 5 to 3. Greg Sherman, our varsity and junior varsity goalie, earned the game ball in both games.
CIF Presentation to SVUSD Board, Tue 5/9 at 7pm

There is a very important presentation to the SVUSD Board of Education on Tuesday, May 9 at 7:00pm (see flyer). We will be asking the board to sanction lacrosse as a CIF sport starting next year. The boosters have been working hard to put together a clear justification for our request (see our proposal). It's very important that we have as many parents, players and supporters at the meeting as possible. It will demonstrate to the board that their decision matters to a lot of the voters in the district. Please plan on arriving between 6:30-6:45pm to ensure that we can get into the meeting. JV Take the Crown at Corona del Mar

The JV team played one of the finest games this season in their victory over Corona del Mar this Thursday. In a clear demonstration of just how far the team has come, everyone played strong and leveraged the strengths of the other players on the field. Patrick Olney scored two goals and contributed two assists. Andrew Stark also scored twice. Doug Brodhagen added another goal and another assist to his season total. And, David Wallace brought the total number of goals to six. Yes, that's right -- a defenseman scored!
Do you hear that rumble coming at you? Watch out! It's the JV team and their not letting anyone stop them.

Varsity In Top Three at OCLA Tournament

This year's OCLA Tournament drew top competitors in both girl's and boy's lacrosse from throughout California, Arizona and Nevada. Fighting through some very tough games, our varsity team brought home honors with their third place ranking. Congratulations to all who participated.
Varsity Teaches a Lesson at University

The Mission Viejo Varsity lacrosse team taught "Lacrosse 101" at University High on Thursday night. With high marks, MV won the game 16 to 6. All players contributed significantly on the class project with eight players scoring -- a new record this season. With their fifth league victory, the team has already secured their spot in the play-offs.

Rain, rain, go away! Today's games were rained out. Well, it was actually a beautiful, sunny day but the games were cancelled to protect the fields. There are three changes to the schedule:

The Mission Viejo Varsity team defeated Woodbridge in a 15 to 6 matchup on Thursday night. Fans poured into the MVHS stadium to see the notorius MV team work their magic. They weren't disappointed. Our team is now 4 for 4!
Laguna Hills Declines; Woodbridge to Play MV Varsity Instead

Laguna Hills has decided to forfeit the game that had been scheduled against the Mission Viejo Varsity team on March 30. We will be playing Woodbridge, instead. The game is now scheduled for Thursday, March 30 at 5:00pm at the Mission Viejo High School stadium.
Junior Varsity Defeats Falcons

Despite calls for heavy showers, the weather was clear and the fields were good. With an 11 to 8 win over the Falcon Lacrosse Club of Torrey Pines, the Mission Viejo Junior Varsity team has their first victory of the season. The game ball went to Doug Brodhagen with 5 goals. Patrick Olney contributed 3 goals in addition to 2 goals by Andrew Stark and the first goal of the game by Christopher Pierick. Jeff Chung delivered 4 assists.
Varsity Defeats Santa Margarita Catholic High School

Corona Del Mar Games Rescheduled

The Varsity and JV games against Corona Del Mar which had been scheduled for April 12 have been rescheduled for April 5. The JV game is still at 5:00pm and the Varsity game follows at 7:00pm. The games will still be played at Davidson Field.
Varsity Breaks Mustangs

Did the Mission Viejo Varsity team leave any doubt as to who dominated the field in their game against the Trabuco Mustangs this afternoon? Neigh! With a resounding 17-0 victory, our Varsity team sent the Mustangs back to the stables. Points were scored by Keith Calcagnie (6), Matt Brodhagen (4), Russell Brent (3), Bobby Trujillo (1), Hudson Parker (1), Jesse Lloyd (1), and Brandon Morris (1). Assists were supplied by Russell Brent (2), Hudson Parker (2), Jesse Lloyd (2), Bryce Gerard (1), Mike Dreyer (1), and Brandon Morris (1). CJ Corwin blocked 1 and Greg Sherman blocked 3 goal attempts by the Mustangs. Congratulations to the entire team.

Presidents' Day Practice Schedule

Practice will be held at the usual time on both Monday, February 20, and Wednesday, February 22, from 3:45pm to 6:00pm. There's still a lot of work to be done to get ready for the season and the first games are just around the corner.

Mission Viejo Defeats Northwood

The Mission Viejo Lacrosse Club soundly defeated Northwood in their scrimmage on February 15. This was an excellent opportunity for both our varsity and junior varsity teams to get some field time before the regular season starts. The final score was 8 to 3. Our point leader again was Matt Brodhagen with three of our six goals.

The first scrimmage is Wednesday, February 15 at 4:30 at the La Paz field (our normal practice field) against Northwood. This is a varsity game but all JV players are encouraged to be there. We will get as many players as possible out on the field during the game.
Congratulations La Quinta Desert LAXFest Champions

The team's first major tournament competition was January 14-15 at the third annual La Quinta Desert LAXFest. We competed against teams throughout California, including Capo Valley, Sonoma County, Newport Harbor, and La Quinta (the hosts) and proved our ability to come through when the pressure was on. Special congratulations to Matt Brodhagen, the tournament MVP and team-tournament offensive player and Chris Corwin, the team-tournament defensive player.

Practice Schedule

Our pre-season/tournament prep. practice schedule is Dec. 8, 15, Jan. 2, 4, 5, 9, 11, 12th 3:45-6:00pm. The remainder of the pre-season practices are Jan. 19, 26. Regular practice begins February 1st and will be every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 3:45-6:00pm. Rain cancellations will be posted and/or will be coordinated via the team phone tree.
